This year, I’ve discovered the quintessential booze to power your toddy: Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock and Rye. I went into a liquor store asking for a low cost bourbon for toddys and the man behind the counter recommended Slow & Low.
Just so we’re clear, I’m not a fan of flavored liquors. I like my bourbon neat, gin on the rocks and tequila neat. Slow & Low and is infused with Honey and Orange which is something I wouldn’t normally go for. I have to say, this stuff is the bomb for hot toddys. Here’s my simple recipe for a hot toddy:
2 shots Slow & Low
squeeze of lemon
‘squirt’ of honey
dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
hot water to taste
Super simple but super delicious on a cold night. The man at the liquor store also recommended Slow & Low with ginger beer (hello summer!). I’ve also discovered that poured over a big cube, it very much resembles an old fashioned.
Let me know if you try this.
P.S. If you live in Oregon, you can search for stores that carry it here.
