About a year ago, a foodie friend of mine on Instagram, @joyeatsworld, started posting pics of pizzas covered in Indian food. I’d never had anything like that before and I was intrigued. I was at the coast last December for a day trip when I had the brilliant realization we would be driving by this restaurant on the way back home. Curry and Crust is located about 40 minutes from our house in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro.
We stopped and tried a butter chicken (Makhani) pizza and it was an instant hit with the family. It seems like such a novel idea to throw your favorite Indian food on top of a pizza crust. I’ve never had anything like this before-two of my culinary worlds were colliding.
My daughter had a volleyball game out in this area yesterday so the second thing I did was pull up my Maps App to see how close we were to the restaurant. I lucked out, only 10 minutes away. We showed up yesterday to a surprisingly packed restaurant for a late lunch. Only on the way home did we realize it was Diwali, the festival of lights.
Despite the fact the restaurant was super busy, they got us seated promptly and our pizzas came out surprisingly quickly. We ordered our old favorite, Butter Chicken but then also ordered a Palak Paneer pizza as well. I can’t wait to get back try another one of their pizzas. Their pizza menu has a number of options we have yet to explore.
I kind of wish this place was closer to where I live but part of me also enjoys the fact this is a rare treat. If you are on the way back from the coast or just happen to be in Hillsboro, give this place a shot.
Not so guilty admission, I made myself a slice of the Palak Paneer with a fried egg on top for a late breakfast treat this morning. Delish!
