I was at Starbucks the other day and I happened to pick up the free download of the week; David Gray-“Back In The World.” I’ve been a fan for a long time but I’ve lost touch with him over the last few years. This track instantly pulled me back in and it “forced” me to make an impulse purchase at Music Millennium on the way home that night.
If you’ve ever been a fan, I’m pretty sure you’ll like this album. It’s produced by Andy Barlow (from Lamb) and reminds me of some of his older work. I really enjoy the entire album all the way through. Along with the opening track, “Girl Like You” is a real favorite with the way the drums and stand up bass work together as well as “Gulls” for it’s haunting vocal and piano.
If you decide to give it a whirl, here’s a tip; pick it up at a record store and spring for the deluxe version. It was $7 more but includes a double live CD (Cascade) recorded 6/11 at the Royal Festival Hall. 15 tracks that span his vast catalog. Well worth the extra few bucks. You’ll also get some art cards all packaged in a beautiful box.
